Computer Security

"The great thing about attackers is that there are so many to choose from!" - Daniel J. Bernstein

Computer Security protects information systems and computer from unauthorised attempts to access information or interfere with its operation. Security functionality such as authentication, access control, auditing, encryption and associated administration enforces security of computers and programs. How the system is constructed is also important to ensure adequate separation of data and functions to limit the possible damage to the single function or data. Major tasks are

  • Confidentiality: Information is limited only to users allowed to access it.
  • Integrity: Information can be modified only by the users who have the right to do this. Data is transferred only between the intended end stations.
  • Accountability: All security relevant actions can be traced back to the causing Users.
  • Availability: The system can not be compromised from the outside, and the availability of the system can not be disrupted.
